  • Working knowledge of statistics and some experience of working on energy statistics
Objective(s)
  • To improve knowledge of the fundamentals of energy statistics and the concepts involved in producing coherent and comprehensive energy balances that represent the energy situation in a country.

The overview training course covers the fundamentals of energy statistics, covering both the specifics of types of energy and knowledge to help energy statisticians enhance their data.   Topics covered include:

  • Commodity and Energy balances
  • Electricity & Heat
  • Natural Gas
  • Oil
  • Solid Fossil Fuels 
  • Renewables & Waste
  • Data collection
  • Estimation
  • Validation
Expected Outcome
  • Enhanced understanding of the energy statistics system, the terms used and how they relate to physical energy production and use.  Improved knowledge of fuels and techniques for producing energy statistics and the ability to apply these methods in practice.

Required PreparationParticipants are invited to look at any existing energy balances produced in their country to help their understanding of how the energy balance covers the supply and demand for energy.
