CIMES

Access to microdata for scientific purposes

in European countries

This section provides an overview of official microdata disseminated by national statistical institutes (NSIs) across Europe for research purposes. It presents information on the available data and the procedures for requesting access, together with information about the available types of files (Public Use Files, Scientific Use Files, and Secure Use Files).

The information provided in this section was initially collected as the CIMES (Centralising and Integrating Metadata from European Statistics) database by CASD/GENES in the framework of the Data without Boundaries project, realised within the 7th Framework Programme for Research. ADP, CED, CNRS-RĂ©seau Quetelet, FORS, GESIS, RODA, ONS, and UL contributed to the creation of CIMES by collecting and structuring the metadata for the period of the Data without Boundaries project (2011-2015). In 2021, Eurostat moved the CIMES database to the CROS platform to facilitate updates of countries' information. Eurostat would like to thank all CIMES developers, especially CASD, for sharing the CIMES database and for all efficient collaboration.

The information in this section is regularly updated by Eurostat and the NSIs concerned.
