Access conditions

General conditions

The Statistical Office of the Slovak Republic (hereinafter referred to as SOSR) may provide confidential statistical data for scientific purposes (microdata) to the following groups:

  • research entities, including PhD students,
  • students of the 1st and 2nd degree of higher education and preparation of bachelor's and master's thesis (final thesis)

They are required to submit a completed application form, which is available online. This form must include a detailed research proposal outlining the objectives, methodology, and anticipated outcomes of the research project.

A formal contract must be signed between the applicant’s institution and the Statistical Office of the Slovak Republic (SOSR). This contract specifies the conditions under which access to data is granted, including:

  • The obligations of both the research institution and the SOSR
  • Measures to ensure the confidentiality of the statistical data
  • Penalties applicable in the event of confidentiality breaches

SOSR makes microdata available in two ways:

  • secure-use files available at the Research Data Center (RDC)
  • scientific-use files transmitted via secure medium or secure data transmission

Conditions for non-resident researchers

Non-resident researchers may access data under the same conditions as national researchers.

Conditions for students

PhD students may have access under the same conditions as confirmed researchers.

Legal framework

Law Nr. 540/2001, as amended (art. 30).

How much does it cost?

Prices are quoted on a contractual basis and depend on time needed to prepare anonymised dataset.

How long does it take to obtain data?

Obtaining the data depends on availability of anonymised dataset and promptness of contract signing. Average time period varies from one to two months.

Disclaimer

The pages above provide information on microdata disseminated at the national level by the statistical institutes in the European countries and on microdata disseminated by Eurostat.  The pages describe the data and the procedures for requesting access as well as the available types of microdata files (Public Use Files, Scientific Use Files, and Secure Use Files).

This information was initially collected by CASD/GENES for the CIMES database developed for Data without Boundaries project (funded by the 7th Framework Programme, the EU's research funding programme between 2007 and 2013). CIMES stands for Centralising and Integrating Metadata from European Statistics. Various organisations (ADP, CED, CNRS-Réseau Quetelet, FORS, GESIS, RODA, ONS, and UL) contributed to the creation of CIMES by collecting and structuring the metadata for the period of the Data without Boundaries project (2011-2015). In 2021, Eurostat moved the CIMES database to the CROS platform to facilitate updates of countries' information. Eurostat would like to thank all CIMES developers, especially CASD, for sharing the CIMES database and for all efficient collaboration.
