Short description of the master´s programme

The aim of the programme is to educate statisticians qualified in theories and methodologies of statistical science and capable to apply statistical methods in economy, government and science.

The study programme is organized in a mandatory part (30 ECTS) and five specialisation tracks (Statistical Inference, Econometrics, Statistics in Finance, Survey Statistics, Statistics in Life Science). The participants have to collect at least 18 ECTS from each of two selected specializations. Further specialization is obtained by elective courses with a maximum of 25 ECTS which can be selected from any course of the participating faculties.  The master thesis gains 30 ECTS. There are  modules which are presented in close collaboration with staff from the Amt für Statistik Berlin-Brandenburg (State Statistical Institute Berlin-Brandenburg, AfS). They will give an explicit overview of the statistical production process and its final products, options and limits of empirical research using official data.

All modules of the survey specialization track are offered together with the master programmes in Survey Statistics of the universities in Bamberg and Trier with joint teaching and seminars (Teleteaching via video conference plus streaming server). This joint teaching covers:  Sampling theory, Variance estimation, Weighting and Calibration, Small Area Estimation, Panel Surveys, Treatment of Nonresponse, Bayesian Statistics, Monte Carlo Methods, Simulations with SAS and a Seminar on Survey Statistics. All three master programs participate in the EMOS program.
