1. Selecting the appropriate Webex connection mode
1.1 Supported browsers
We recommend using Internet Explorer or Google Chrome to connect to Webex. Mozilla Firefox users sometimes experience difficulties.
1.2 Different available connection modes
There are different ways to connect to Webex:
- Joining via the browser. This option does not require any specific software to be installed on your PC.
- Using the desktop app. This requires prior installation of the Webex plug-in. You can find information on how to install this plug-in here.
- Joining by video system, either by entering the organiser’s webex information or dialling a given number followed by the meeting number
- By phone (calling in) a specific number and then entering the meeting number provided in the invitation email.
1.3 Selecting the chosen connection mode
Prior to your Webex meeting, you have received an invitation via email. The invitation email contains all different connection modes available, including the web app via a link. When it is time for you to connect, use your preferred connection mode – and click the green button provided in the email (Join meeting) if you want to join via the browser or the desktop app.

When you click on the 'Join meeting' link, you will be able to select whether to connect via the web app or desktop, for which prior Webex plug-in installation is needed.
Please note that if you are using a device other than a PC, only 'Call-in audio' and the 'Cisco Webex Meetings' app are available.

Once you have made your choice, you will be asked to provide your name and your email address. If you have an account please 'Sign in' before clicking Next.

2. Connecting your audio
After you have clicked on "Join Meeting" you will be asked to select how to connect your audio. Although the audio options are the same, the lay out differs slightly depending on the connection mode.
2.1 Browser
You will be asked to choose your connection mode before joining the meeting. The default option is using 'Computer audio’. You can manually modify by selecting 'Call in' or 'Don't connect to audio' (see image below). Testing your microphone and speakers is also possible.

2.2 Desktop app
You will be asked to choose your audio connection option before being connected to the Webex meeting room.

2.3 Audio connection mode
The preferred option is "Use computer for audio". Click that option (as shown in image above). If this is your first time joining Webex, you may want to test your speaker and microphone settings.
Alternatively, you have another possibility to connect to the audio by Call in
Dial the number provided in the pop up window after you click ‘Join meeting’. Please enter the ‘Access code’ number followed by the ‘Attendee ID’ number. Please note that your call may be rejected if the event is locked by the organiser. If this is the case please use either ‘Call Using Computer’.

3. Participating in the activity
Webinars are usually attended by large groups. The organiser may ask you to mute yourself upon entering the room (or you may be muted by default). This is meant to avoid the possibility of having several open microphones, which often leads to low audio quality. If you want to ask a question, you can ask it by using Webex's chatting functionality.
To send a question, click on the button that looks like a comic book talking bubble on the bottom of your screen. A chat box will then appear on the top of the talking bubble (see screenshot below). Enter your messages and click "Send" to send them. The trainer will then respond to your queries. We recommend to always select "Everyone" in the "Send to" box: this will allow all participants to see your questions.
