The SDMX registry is a key component in any SDMX implementation as it stores SDMX artefacts that will enable the collection, exchange, validation and / or dissemination of SDMX data and metadata files.
Eurostat’s own registry is called the Euro SDMX Registry. It contains SDMX artefacts used to support data and metadata exchange within the European Statistical System. Other organisations have their own SDMX registries, responding to their needs as well as those of their stakeholders. In addition, the SDMX sponsors have developed the Global SDMX Registry, which serves the needs of the global SDMX community by storing the SDMX artefacts that support global data and metadata exchange implementation projects.
SDMX registries are accessible via web services. The web service interface and syntax is defined by the SDMX standard, so all registries share a similar way to call and retrieve artefacts. There are several guides and tutorials available on how to use Web Services, including:
- Official specifications of the REST web services, including a useful cheat sheet
- Several tutorials on how to use REST web services are available, including:
- One by the ECB
- One by Eurostat
- Query builders built into the SDMX Global Registry and the IMF's Registry
