A new generation of interactive dashboards for easy access and support to European Group Register users

THE PROJECT
MNE_BI tool is a visualisation and comparison tool designed to enhance access to data on multinational enterprise groups (MNEs) from the European Group Register (EGR).
The project delivers interactive dashboards that compare data of open data sources with the EGR data, allowing users to explore, visualise and compare data in a more dynamic and intuitive way and use data from open data sources wherever they don't have them. The solutions is based on a modern data visualisation platform and replaces traditional, custom-built interfaces with flexible, dashboard-based analytics.
THE MOTIVATION
The increasing complexity and volume of multinational enterprise data require more efficient tools for analysis and comparison. Traditional user interfaces are costly to develop, less flexible, and limited in analytical capabilities.
By introducing interactive dashboards, the project supports statistical business register users in performing their work more effectively and economically by providing them data from open data sources which they can use. It also responds to National Statistical Institutes’ (NSIs) requests for improved comparison between EGR data and other public data sources. Moreover, they can monitor the status of the profiling activities. Finally, they can find data for mergers and acquisitions for MNE groups of their interest, which is an early warning for them for restructurings that they should pay attention to.
THE METHODOLOGY
The project followed a process-innovation approach based on the reuse of out-of-the-box functionalities from an existing data visualisation platform instead of developing a fully customised IT solution.
Key elements include:
Integration of non-statistically confidential data from open data sources
Planned integration of statistically confidential data (pending providing access to non EC staff to such a workspace, by EC Directorate-General for Informatics (DIGIT))
Iterative testing with internal staff and gradual availability of the dashboards to users from the Statistical Business Register community
The first dashboards containing non-confidential data are ready and available to the EGR users and producers.

Reuse and sharing possibilities
The dashboards are available to statistical business register users in all EU National Statistical Institutes as well as users from National Central Banks (NCB) and the European Central Bank (ECB).
Future developments include migration of all EGR user portal dashboards to the new platform once dashboards with statistically confidential data can be made available to NSI and NCB users.
