Bringing statistics closer to the public

THE PROJECT
The ADADIS project aims to better align Eurostat’s dissemination products and services with the evolving needs, expectations and behaviours of users. It focuses on making official statistics more accessible, engaging and relevant for a wide range of audiences.
Building on insights from user profiling studies and usability research, the project supports the development of new communication formats, such as short video content, to bring statistics closer to the public. It also leverages feedback from multiple channels, including user support enquiries, surveys, webinars and social media interactions.
The project is part of a broader transformation of dissemination practices, with a stronger focus on user-centric design, platform-specific communication and increased engagement across digital channels.
THE MOTIVATION
As user needs and communication habits evolve, statistical organisations must adapt how they present and share information. Traditional dissemination approaches are no longer sufficient to effectively reach diverse audiences or to ensure statistical literacy among citizens.
ADADIS responds to this challenge by strengthening the ESS capacity to adapt to societal changes and improve resilience in communication. It supports the implementation of the Eurostat Communication and Dissemination Strategy 2025–2029, which emphasises tailoring content and messages to different user groups and platforms.
By placing users at the centre, the project aims to increase the impact, reach and relevance of official statistics.
THE METHODOLOGY
The project combines user research, content innovation and continuous feedback integration to refine dissemination products and services.
Key elements include:
- Use of user profiling studies and usability research to guide product development
- Integration of feedback from multiple sources (user support, surveys, webinars, social media)
- Development of new formats, including short videos and enhanced multimedia content
- Tailoring of social media communication to platform-specific features and audiences
- Establishment of an internal social media planning calendar to optimise outreach and engagement
- Revamping and increased use of digital channels such as YouTube and podcasts
- Promotion of statistical literacy through targeted campaigns (e.g. World Statistics Day)
- Exchange of best practices with Member States through the Dissemination Working Group
- Presentation and use of tools such as the dissemination impact monitor (EDIM)
Ongoing and planned actions include expanding video content, promoting webinars through social media channels, and further integrating user insights into dissemination strategies.
