What inspired you to choose an EMOS-labelled master’s programme for your studies?

Throughout my academic journey, I have been increasingly inspired by the potential of statistics to shape the future of society. The way in which official statistics play a crucial role in informing policy decisions and guiding public measures truly resonated with me. I came to understand the immense power of data as a tool for driving change and improving societal outcomes. This realization sparked a strong ambition within me to not only contribute to the development of reliable and insightful statistical frameworks but also to approach the world with a critical eye, questioning and analyzing the data that drives key decisions. I believe that through the use of data, we can create more informed, equitable, and sustainable solutions for the challenges our society faces on a daily basis.

During your studies, have you participated in any activities dedicated to EMOS students?

Recently, I had the privilege of attending the 10th Annual EMOS Workshop in Wiesbaden, Germany. It was an unforgettable experience that truly reinforced my decision to pursue this path in my studies and future career. The event gave me the opportunity to engage with experts and professionals in the field, whose
ideas and insights were incredibly inspiring. It was a stimulating and enriching experience that helped me gain a deeper understanding of the importance of official statistics in shaping society. I highly recommend this kind of event to anyone considering this academic path, as it not only provides invaluable learning but also fosters a sense of belonging to a global network and a dynamic, collaborative community. I look forward to joining additional EMOS events and activities.

Have you already completed your EMOS internship?

I have not yet completed my internship (I am a second year Master student), but I have already applied for an internship with ISTAT, the Italian National Statistical Institute. Although the internship has not started yet, I have had the opportunity to attend some very interesting seminars that have further fueled my motivation.
These experiences have provided valuable insights into the world of official statistics, and I am excited to apply my knowledge and skills in a real-world setting. I look forward to gaining hands-on experience and deepening my understanding of how official statistics contribute to decision-making processes and public policy.

Would you recommend a fellow student to choose the EMOS track at your university?

I would definitely recommend the EMOS track at my university (University of Campania 'Luigi Vanvitelli', Italy). I believe that official statistics is a fascinating and essential field to explore, especially when studying data science topics. The courses my university offers within the EMOS program are not only highly relevant but also have a predominantly practical approach, which provides students with a general idea of what the professional world will be like. This combination of theoretical knowledge and hands-on experience is invaluable in preparing for a successful career in official statistics and data-driven decision-making.

Has your EMOS study experience prepared you for your future academic and career pursuits?

I firmly believe that the EMOS program will give me a significant edge in achieving my career goals and undoubtedly broaden my future prospects. Although I am still completing my studies, EMOS has already helped me approach the job market with a more selective and critical eye. One of the greatest advantages of the EMOS track, in my opinion, is the relational aspect. Through EMOS, I have had the opportunity to connect with numerous professionals working in the field of official statistics. Each of these connections is a
potential stepping stone toward a future career, and I’m confident that these relationships will play a key role in my professional development.
