| Objective(s) | By the end of the course, participants will be able to: • Understand the reporting requirements under the Waste Statistics Regulation. • Understand the main methods of data compilation and their impact on data quality and reliability, and the comparability of results between countries. • Report secondary waste statistics in line with EU requirements and good practices. • Apply methods for validating waste statistics. • Analyse waste time series, identify trends and inconsistencies within a country, and benchmark results across countries. • Perform cross-checks with other statistical domains such as national accounts, income, social inclusion and living conditions, and waste data reported under other EU legislation, improving coherence across statistical systems. |
| Contents | • Reporting requirements under the Waste Statistics Regulation. • Methods of data compilation (e.g. factors, modelling) and the effects on data quality and the comparability of results. • Reporting on secondary waste • Methods for the validation of waste statistics, overview on validation approaches and checks currently done. • Analysis of time series for one country, comparisons between countries, use of economic indicators in the validation. • Cross-checks with other statistical domains such as national accounts, income, social inclusion and living conditions, and waste data reported based on other EU legislation. |
| Expected Outcome | Participants will be able to accurately compile, validate, and report waste statistics in accordance with EU regulations and best practices, analyse and interpret waste data trends and inconsistencies, and enhance the coherence and comparability of waste statistics. |
