| Target Group | Statisticians of National Accounts (NA) departments, with more than one-year experience in the statistical field, wishing to understand better the overall system of National Accounts and its critical issues. The course will focus on practical aspects of national accounts compilation and will assume an already existing basic knowledge of national accounts. |
| Entry Qualifications | • Sound command of English. Participants should be able to make short interventions and to actively participate in discussions. • First experience in the area of national accounts (at least one year). |
| Objective(s) | The course aims at enhancing participants' theoretical and practical knowledge of National Accounts. They should become familiar with the system framework, the integration and balancing of source data and the presentation of national accounts data. |
| Contents | • Day 1-2 o The use of NA o Principles and accounting rules of ESA 2010; Classifications, statistical units, institutional sectors and types of output; Transactions in goods and services in NA; Distributive transactions; The sequence of accounts o Volume and price measurement; International comparisons and Purchasing Power Parities; o Integrated compilation of data in current and constant prices • Day 3-4 o Supply and Use Tables o Input-Output Tables • Day 5-6 o Institutional Sector Accounts: 1/ Non-financial Accounts as well as Financial Accounts: Non-financial corporations, Financial corporations, Government sector (including EDP-related matters), Households sector, Rest of the World, 2/ Labour Accounts; o Balancing the system with a fully integrated approach; • Day 7-8 o Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and beyond, recommendations of the Stiglitz-commission; o Satellite accounts; o Regional accounts; o The European management of NA data and quality. |
| Expected Outcome | Good understanding of the European System of National Accounts as well as relations between data sources and national accounts. |
