Target GroupThis course is intended for any statistician (including newcomers) from ESS or ESCB working on production of official globalisation related statistics (FATS, FDI, GNI, BoP, etc.) and seeking to better understand the EGR methodology, various concepts and definitions used in producing the EGR data, integration of new data sources and recent developments in the EGR process. 
Entry Qualifications

Sound command of English. Participants should be able to make short interventions and to actively participate in discussions.

Objective(s)

The course will provide participants with advanced knowledge of EGR system and its applications. It will present the EGR business process, theoretical and methodological background on development and improvement of EGR and EGR quality checks, the EGR's role and good practices of integration into the production of official globalisation related statistics. 

Finally, it will provide information on the functionalities of the EGR applications and future developments.

Contents

The sessions consist of basic methodology, challenges faced in data compilation and use of EGR data as a source for related statistics, presentation of EGR functionalities (including hands-on exercises) to give participants advanced knowledge in using the EGR applications, information on latest developments and future changes, dissemination.

The sessions include information about:

  • A general overview of EGR (scope, data sources, process).

  • New developments in EGR process (data consolidation, integration of profiling data, data frame within a reference year).

  • Data quality management in the EGR. 

  • Good practices of the EGR use at national level.

  • EGR applications.

  • Exchange of views/experiences on national practices.

Expected Outcome

Good understanding of the business process of EGR and challenges encountered to align to user’s requirements. Advanced knowledge about the use and functionalities of the EGR applications.

The participants will become familiar with available data and possible use of the EGR data for production of the official business and economic statistics.

The participants will provide their input on quality checks and input on available data and will propose new requirements for EGR and new features for the EGR applications.

  • Practical demonstrations and Exercises.
