Coordinator of the European Master in Official Statistics

What are the most interesting aspects of EMOS for your institution and you personally?
EMOS allows the Sapienza University to enhance the connection to the national system of official statistics at the national level. Furtheremore, it allows us to be part of an international community that supports and stimulates us. On a personal level, EMOS allows me to bring my professional experience in the Italian Statistical Institute to the academic world. It also puts me in contact with an international community for the exchange of ideas and interests, to work together towards a common goal.

What do you see as the key benefits of an education in official statistics for master’s students?
Official statistics are a public good and must therefore respond to precise qualitative dimensions. By approaching this world, students acquire skills in process and data quality that can be used in any professional field. In addition, the Master's programme offers students the opportunity to interface with the professional world of official statistics, both nationally and internationally. This can show how working with official statistics can be both scientifically challenging from a methodological perspective and rewarding in terms of understanding the social value/impact of one of the fundamental tools for public decision-making.
