Mobility programme

The first edition of the EMOS mobility programme was run by Eurostat with the support of an external contractor between 2020 and 2024. Under this programme, EMOS students could apply for financial support to perform cross-border internships and to attend events and conferences related to official statistics

The mobility activities aimed to provide EMOS students with an opportunity to gain professional experience and international exposure while also supporting cross-border cooperation and knowledge transfer among EMOS network partners.

The first edition of the EMOS mobility programme was concluded in April 2024. A new edition is foreseen to start in 2025.

Cross-border internships

EMOS aims at providing students with an advanced training in the specific themes of statistics in general and official statistics in particular. Internships in a national statistical institute or a statistical department of another producer of official statistics are an integral part of the EMOS programme. Through internships, EMOS students have the opportunity to apply the knowledge gained through their studies while performing real tasks. Students can also develop their master’s theses during the internships. Cross-border internships are an opportunity for students to gain an insight into the functioning of a statistical organisation outside of their home country, gain valuable work experience, grow their network and enhance their language skills.

In the first edition of the EMOS mobility programme, 15 students performed cross-border internships and received financial support

Sponsorship for participation in statistical conferences

Statistical conferences, workshops and training sessions are an opportunity for EMOS students to deepen their knowledge and network with professional statisticians.

In the first edition of the EMOS mobility programme, 12 students received the sponsorship for participation in statistical conferences. They attended the 2023 edition of the New Techniques and Technologies for Statistics conference, the 2022 edition of the European Conference on Quality in Official Statistics, the 2022 edition of the Conference of European Statistics Stakeholders 2022 and the 2021 edition of the Royal Statistical Society International Conference. Some of the students’ testimonials can be viewed on the EMOS YouTube Channel
