Abstract

The main objective of this survey is to study the status and structure of the housing stock, both in metropolitan France and overseas departments (DOM), as well as the tenure conditions of households' main residence. The main topics are: the physical characteristics of the housing unit (size, bathroom and heating facilities, outbuildings), housing quality (quality of building and housing unit, reliability of equipment functioning, home orientation, noise, location, neighborhood, environment, safety), the legal terms of occupation (type and origin of property, rent legislation, government support) access difficulties, household credit rating, operation reports rental; expenses related to housing (rent, rental charges or condo, price and financing of housing purchased recently, loan reimbursement, work done in the home) and housing benefits received by the residents; Income received by the various members of the household; households' property value; level of satisfaction with current accommodation and desire to move out (if any); unusual situations such as hosting individuals other than household members; children of the reference person and / or of the spouse living outside their parent's home.

The 2006 survey introduces a questioning on respondents' homelessness periods. In 2006, new questions were also introduced on wear and tear of housing facilities, use of tax exemption devices, use of clean energy, the performance of the heating system, the existence of recovery procedures in case of unpaid rent and opportunities for public housing residents to own their home.
