Abstract

The Austrian consumption survey serves as the central information source for assessing the standard of living in Austria. In accord with EU regulation it is conducted every 5 years and was first carried out between 1999 and 2000, however microdata are only available as of 2004/05. The core task of the survey is the recalibration of the consumer price index but data from the consumption survey are also employed in the system of national accounting. In addition to information on private and household consumption which is collected via journals over a time span of two weeks a number of indicators on socio demographics, housing and wealth are collected to allow for the analysis of subgroups of society.
