Abstract

The Labour Force Survey (LFS) is conducted in all EU Member states in accordance with Regulation (EU) 2019/1700 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 10 October 2019 establishing a common framework for European statistics relating to persons and households, based on data at individual level collected from samples and subsequent implementing regulations in the field of labour force statistics.  The survey is a sample statistical survey carried out through private households. It is designed to provide comparable and timely information on the main characteristics of employment and unemployment, using a methodology harmonized within the European Union.

The core of the LFS data collection covers the following topics: person and household characteristics, labour market participation, educational attainment, job tenure, work biography and previous work experience, working conditions including working hours and working time arrangements, participation in education and training, health status. The LFS includes also modules on specific topics, among which some are collected with a regular periodicity (of eight years).
