Introduction

The CONVAL (CONtent VALidation) service performs the validation of the content of statistical datasets based on validation rules and constraints formulated by the statistical domain managers responsible for the respective business processes and datasets. This generic validation service may be used optionally with access via a graphical user interface. The service is a key component of the data validation process performed by Eurostat and the ESS.

Main features

The content validation service provides and performs the complete range of validation operations employed by statistical production. The service completes basic logical and content checks, intra- and inter-file data plausibility and consistency checks, and cross-domain source based checks.

Furthermore, the service informs stakeholders of the validity and consistency of datasets. The service produces a validation report which is made available to stakeholders of the validation service, containing errors individually located and classified to support effective business response.
