Abstract

The education statistical data are obtained by processing the information collected with the help of the exhaustive statistical surveys on university/school units. These statistical surveys take place annually, making sure that data are collected for both the beginning and the end of the academic/school year. Because of the necessity to decipher the reasons and the meaning of the social phenomena, this instrument of study, based on counting, progressed along the time. The first recordings of the literate population were done in 1920; after 1946, the information collected being more and more detailed with the passing of time.

Starting with 2011/2012 academic year, higher education (tertiary education (ISCED levels 5 and 6) to follow by separate statistical surveys:
- University education ( the 1st stages)
- Higher education ( the 2nd and 3rd stages) and postgraduate (including postdoctoral).

The objective of the survey is to evaluate the participation of the school population aged 19-23 years at the educational process organized within the institutions of higher education.
