Abstract

The purpose of the survey is to prepare and publish statistical information on the population employment and unemployment; assess the number of employed, unemployed and inactive population, their distribution by gender, age, education, etc.

Statistical indicators of employment are needed to assess changes in the country’s labor market, to shape social and economic policies, to make social decisions, to assess the level of development of the country’s economy, to prepare economic development forecasts, to compare labor market indicators between countries.

The evaluated parameters:

  • employed population by age, gender, place of residence, types of economic activity of the workplace, main groups of professions, employment status, education, number of hours worked, etc.;

  • the unemployed by age, gender, place of residence, education, duration of unemployment, job search methods, previous work experience, type of economic activity of former workplace, etc.;

  • inactive population by age, gender, place of residence, etc.;

  • 15 years and older population by education;

  • labor force activity level by age groups, gender, place of residence, etc.;

  • employment rate by age group, gender, place of residence, etc.;

  • unemployment rate by age groups, gender, place of residence, etc.;

  • lifelong learning rate by gender and place of residence;

  • ad-hoc module data is collected every year on one of the listed topics: reconciliation of work and family life, youth in the labor market, position of migrants and their direct descendants in the labor market, pension and participation in the labor market, organization of work and working time, acquired education (detailed information, including information on interrupted or incomplete education), work skills, another topic relevant to EU policy. Topics are repeated every eight years.

The survey is carried out by the Living Standard and Employment Statistics Division

Time method

The survey has been conducted and time series have been compared since 1998. Until 2002, the survey was conducted twice a year, since 200, every quarter. The survey is carried out using a simple random sampling method, applying a sequential non-returnable sampling of households with probabilities proportional to the size of the household.

Time period

The survey period is a week. There are 13 weeks in a quarter, and 52 in a year.
