Abstract
(Abstract comes from Eurostat website)
Health interview surveys offer comprehensive data on the health status and the health-related behaviours of a population based on a series of personal household interviews. The European health interview survey, abbreviated as EHIS, that is implemented and managed by Eurostat, includes information from all European Union (EU) Member States. Among other advantages, it will enable the European Commission to strengthen its communicable diseases alert system. The survey is to be conducted every five years.
A health interview survey usually covers the following topics:
- height and weight, which form the basis for the calculation of the body mass index (BMI);
- self-perceived health;
- activities that have been reduced because of health problems;
- long-standing illnesses or health problems;
- smoking behaviour;
- alcohol consumption.
