Abstract

The survey interviewed 62,000 graduates out of 300,338 who attained the university degree in 2007, aiming at detecting their employment status roughly four years after graduation.

The survey is a part of the survey-system on the study-to-work-transition, which also includes the survey on doctorate holders' vocational integration and upper secondary school graduates' transition to university or labor market. The surveys are carried out with the aim to provide a comprehensive overview of the transition pathways from education to employment for the young.

The survey was executed in two steps. First, contact with universities made it possible to obtain the "population" (all the graduates who attained their university degree during the year 2007) which then leads to the extraction of the "sample". The release of the "universe" file means an innovation in the survey-system on the study-to-work-transition: for the first time, the list containing the 300,338 graduates who attained the degree in 2007 was made available (Micro-data File and Micro-data for Research Purposes File; see "University Graduates Census"). The second step involved the graduates, extracted according to a sample stratified by sex, university and course.

A large number of information is gathered through the survey: subjective opinions about the educational experience; access to the labor market; job search; family situation, referring both to the family of origin and to the current one at the time of the interview. Data on further study experiences, particularly interesting in the "3+2″ paths analysis, were collected as well. In addition, an entire section of the questionnaire was devoted to the graduates' mobility, with the aim of obtaining more detailed information on mobility experiences realized between the degree and the situation at the time of the interview.
