Data can be supplied for research purposes only.

Conditions for non-resident researchers

Non-resident researchers must additionally demonstrate security measures planned for data protection.

Conditions for students

Same as for national researchers. The student’s supervisor (Professor) also signs the contract with SFSO. Students are entitled to a 20% discount.
(For students registered in a foreign university, it is recommended that the supervisor acts as principal investigator).

COMPASS, a service from FORS, the Swiss Centre of Expertise in the Social Sciences, is the single point of access for researchers seeking data from the Swiss Federal Statistical Office.
An application form has to be completed. The SFSO will make the decision. If the demand is accepted, a data protection and confidentiality agreement have to be signed.
Microdata will be sent to user either on CD or on FTP, depending on the study.

How long does it take to obtain data?

Between one week for well documented requests to three months if SFSO needs additional information.

How much does it cost?

Pricing scheme varies between studies; rebates are available for projects financed by the Swiss government or the Swiss national research foundation.
