In all other cases, users must obtain accreditation for their institution before applying for data access.Conditions for non-resident researchersSame as national researchers for fully anonymised data; de-identified data can be supplied to foreign researchers if use takes place via the country’s national statistics agency, and if their confidentiality regulations correspond to those in Norway.Conditions for studentsSame as confirmed researchers, though supervision by a qualified researcher/tutor is often required.Legal frameworkStatistics Act of Norway, Act No. 54 of June 16 1989Personal Data Act of 14 April 2000How to apply & modes of accessPublic Use FilesN/AScientific Use FilesStatistics Norway relies on NSD (Norwegian Social Science Data Archive) as a provider for highly anonymized micro data. Users submit a request electronically to NSD and receive the data over the Internet, on disk or CD.Data access to de-identified, but more detailed microdata is managed by Statistics Norway. In some cases NSD is involved as an intermediary, but the final decision is made by Statistics Norway. Permission from the Data Protection Official for Research (at NSD) or the Data inspectorate must be granted.A user agreement (in Norwegian) must be completed. Data is provided on CD.Secure Use FilesStatistics Norway and NSD are currently setting up a new joint infrastructure for secure remote access to sensitive data (RAIRD, Remote Access Infrastructure for Registry Data).Details & practical informationHow long does it take to obtain data? For files distributed by NSD, waiting time varies from immediate to a few weeks. For data distributed by Statistics Norway, it varies from one month up to one year. How much does it cost?Highly anonymised files distributed by NSD are free of charge. For more detailed files, users are charged for extra cost in relation to data preparation (depends on the data scope and complexity.)Statistics Norway's research data page: click [Here]Norwegian Social Science Data Archive Information on data access: click [Here]Information on accessStatistics Norway's research data page: http://www.ssb.no/a/english/mikrodata_en/Norwegian Social Science Data Archive Information on data access: http://www.nsd.uib.no/nsd/english/order.htmlOtherRAIRD: http://raird.no
