The Bulgarian innovation survey provides internationally comparable information on the innovation activity of the enterprises in industry and services, in particular on product and business process innovations, on different types of innovation, on various aspects of the development of an innovation, such as expenditure, public funding, and innovation co-operation.
The survey is carried out on a biennial basis (from 2004 onward) covering enterprises with 10 and more persons employed in manufacturing and certain service activities. The survey questionnaire is aligned with the content and structure of the EU harmonised data collection questionnaire and the concepts and definitions used are these laid down in Oslo Manual 4th edition - Guidelines for collecting, reporting and using data on innovation, OECD/Eurostat 2018.
The innovation data produced are in line with the requirements of the Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2022/1092, which establishes the legal basis for innovation statistics and makes it compulsory to deliver data every two years on key variables. The data result from the innovation survey are broken down by: economic activity, size class, innovation status, innovation profiles, special groups of enterprises and regions.
