Abstract
The Austrian Adult Education Survey (AES) informs about the lifelong learning activities of the Austrian working age population and thus closes a gap in the existing system of Austrian education statistics. A first pilot study was conducted in 2007 as part of a gentleman's agreement among the countries of the European Union. From 2011 onwards the AES will be implemented on the basis of European legislation and carried out in all of Europe every 5 years.
The AES covers the following topics: formal and informal education activities; barriers to education; informal learning; availability of information on education opportunities; Information and Communication technologies, Language skills; participation in cultural and social activities; Attitudes towards education and basic socio-demographics.
