Abstract

HEK is a sample survey conducted annually. The population is the complete Swedish population, the sample covers individual 18 years+. Sample size varies over time between 10 000 and ca 19 000 IO (households). Data have been collected in 1975, 1978 and annually from 1980. From 2000 the sample is coordinated with the SCB Longitudinal Income Database (LINDA). This open possibilities to follow individuals and households over time.
Data-collection is a combination of telephone interviews and administrative registers. The interview part covers data on household composition, housing, employment, childcare and health-related expenses.
Income- and property data are collected through tax registers.
