Abstract
The statistics of income are divided into tax-related income statistics, which include taxable incomes and deductions only, and into income statistics in general that cover total income and its components, irrespective of how they are treated with respect to taxation.
This declaration of contents describe the income statistics in general, but as the two statistics are so closely related the tax-related income statistics will also be covered to a certain degree. As the information from the tax-related income is the main source for the income statistics in general, the tax-related income statistics will to a certain degree also be covered here, although this declaration mainly describes the income statistics in general. For more specific information on the tax-related income statistics, please see the declaration of contents describing the tax-related income statistics.
The aim of the income statistics in general is to produce statistics to analyse the significance of income for the distribution of living conditions of families and persons in Denmark. Contrary to the tax-related statistics, the family and persons statistics endeavour to include all income types, irrespective of how incomes are treated with respect to taxation. The basis of the generalized statistics is the UN's provisional guidelines on statistics of income and wealth, (United Nations, Provisional Guidelines on Statistics of the Distribution of Income, Consumption and Accumulation of Households, Statistical Papers, Series M, no. 61, New York 1977).
Income Statistics in General contain a range of central and major income components from the tax-related income statistic supplemented with information on non-taxable transfers of different types. This opens up the opportunity to describe the income in general terms for both families and persons.
On the family level the central income concepts are the total family income before and after direct taxes. Its totals and the composition before taxes are shown for different types of families, classified according to their composition, socioeconomic and educational status, housing conditions and whether the family owns a car. Average total income before and after taxes are also shown for the municipalities.
On the personal level the central income concept is the personal income, which consists of the income components that can be connected directly to each individual person. This means that property income, child allowance and housing subsides are excluded from personal income, when comparing the components with total family income before taxes. The personal income is classified according to gender, socioeconomic and educational status and municipalities.
