Abstract

Business Register of Slovenia (BRS) is a source of data on business subjects in Slovenia. It has been kept by the Agency for Public and Legal Records and Services (AJPES) on the basis the Payment Transactions Act. The agency obtains data from primary registers and records kept by different register bodies (regional courts, administrative units, ministries, chambers, bodies of internal affairs, inland revenues and other register bodies) authorised for keeping registers and records on business subjects. The Business Register of Slovenia contains records of all business subjects registered, recorded or created by law that did not stop operating, irrespective of their present business activity. The Business Register of Slovenia covers all legal organisational forms of business subjects and their constituent parts, as determined by the Law on Enterprises, the Companies Act, the Co-operatives Act, the Institutes Act, the Banks and Savings Banks Act , the Public Utilities Act, the Law on Associated Labour and other laws conferring on business subjects the status of a legal person. The register still comprises some organisational forms founded upon the Law on Associated Labour, the Law on Enterprises and other laws from the former state. They will be kept in the register until they are harmonised with the Companies Act and other laws. Statistical Office of the Republic of Slovenia enables microdata users to access data on individual entries within the Slovenian Business Register performing economic activities within the territory of the Republic of Slovenia (it currently contains around 220,000 units). The units of the Slovenian Business Register are:
1.) companies (partnerships and corporations),
2.) sole proprietors,
3.) others and specific users of the unified chart of accounts,
4.) legal entities governed by private law,
5.) societies,
6.) natural persons performing registered or regulated activities,
7.) subsidiaries and other divisions of business entities
8.) main offices of foreign business entities, and
9.) other units.
